Presedential Elections in Ghana

Something very serious is going on in Ghana right now. Presidential elections are coming up in December so as you would imagine, there are a lot of rallies, talking, debating and impossible promises going on.

This is what I mean. Most of the candidates running for the presidency make strong statements about what they will do when they get into power but never talk bout how they are going to fulfill those promises.

I call them “EMPTY PROMISES” just made to attract more votes. It is very rare to hear a candidate lay out the steps he will take to achieve the promise he has made. Sadly, because most Ghanaians are not that well educated, they are easily convinced by these promises. You will find out that a few years after the president is elected, people will begin to say that they told lies in order to get votes, and this is true.

A lot of people I talk to express lack of confidence in the political parties and the candidates running to be president. This makes me sad because I think most of our priorities are misplaced and some of our leaders do not have the whole country at heart.

Ministers are driving in very expensive cars when children are being kicked out of school. Brain drain is on the rise, roads are full of potholes and drainage is very very poor. And what are our leaders doing? We need people who are willing and ready to take the nation forward.

We need people who will be selfless and who have the dream of a better Ghana. Nowadays, musicians are paid to perform when a political party is having a rally. How should this be, when a rally is supposed to give the political party a medium to communicate its intentions for the country? To be very honest we need to get our foundations right or we should forget about moving forward.

It’s amazing how politics is becoming less ”political” and more and more ”show business”.

Congratulations by the article, because here in Brazil there are not too much information about Ghana.

Hi Celso, thankyou for your comment. I will try to give you more information about my region. I think Ghana and Brazil have something in common, COCOA.
